Haven't posted in awhile as we've had a lot on our minds and have been spending our energy with Two-dot.
walked up to lombard yesterday morning for an important appointment and photoged this store under remodel. After stripping off the paint, there are signs that this used to be a Piggly Wiggly. I was surprised as i didn't think we had those in the NW ever.

Yes, we had stores in that part of the country. Until fairly recently, as a matter of fact: the early Fifties. We had quite an active multiple-store operator headquartered in Puyallup, Washington; (I think this is near Tacoma.). The Operator, as a matter of fact, was elected to the top national Shrine post during the Fifties. I recall his coming into the office en route to a Shrine meeting when he was "stumping" for the top job. I asked how long he'd be in Jacksonville and he said he was flying home that afternoon: he'd flown all the way from Washington State just to attend one Shrine meeting in Jacksonville and shake a few hands. His operation was turned over to his two sons and they took it out of Piggly Wiggly.
