so, saturday was somewhat a strange day. i wanted to accomplish a ton of stuff, but didn't. but did. in the end, i did do some good stuff in the yard and found something i have been really worried about for awhile. it was in an obvious spot and now i know where that spot is.
in the garden, between rain showers, i pulled grass and weeds and other assorted junk. i didn't finish, but got about 80% done. today i think i'll put some bulbs in the ground i cleared.

week 2
week two of operation get up @ 5am wasn't as much of a success as week one. i had a couple days where i slept in until 6 and one day where i slept in to 7. while i shouldn't beat myself up about it, it does make me want to refocus on the task at hand. i do have that feeling - even though i'm not getting 2 hrs in the morning, i am still accomplishing something. the house is clean, the dishes are done, i did some major weeding over the weekend and i've blogged almost everyday. my stats are up, i'm learning about code and such and i'm generally feeling better about a few things. woo hooooo.
weekend is here and we're having a guest, so we'll be out and about painting the town.

spring lunch
i was restless yesterday at work, so ventured out for tacos and then a walk. i've become a bit bored of downtown walks of late. everything keeps needing to have a purpose and mostly the purpose is to shop. got to nw to buy ... walk to pearl to buy ... you understand? so, yesterday i went where there are no stores - the waterfront. i wanted to head north of the steel bridge past the broadway. what a beautiful walk. there are condos between the two bridges on the west side of the river and they have a nice, clean, close to the water walkway that is open to the public. another great feature - deserted. once you get north of the steel bridge, there are no bikes, no joggers, no colorful characters. it was just me.
it was such a beautiful day that i found myself getting a little sweaty under the strap of my shoulder bag. i'm gonna need to figure that one out so i don't return to work after lunch everyday with giant sweat stains on my clothes.
i decided not to walk home as i wanted to get some planting done. i'm not sure if that was a good or bad decision - you help decide. while on the MAX, already almost home, i realized i had forgot my keys. i got off, headed back downtown, got the keys and got home. 1hr 20m commute that normally would take 15 minutes. if i had been walking and discovered it at that point, the trip would have been significantly longer i think. then again, walking may have made me remember to get my keys off my desk before i left.
in the end, a good day. i'm still getting up early. it's currently 5:50am, no sunlight just yet. i'm hoping to get outside this morning....hoping. i'm still trying to figure out how my body is reacting to this early morning. i feel i'm crashing a little around lunchtime and after lunch and it's not because of the giant pasta dish i had. further, when at home, around 8pm, i'm ready for bed eventhough i don't want to go to bed. last night for example, i felt like going to bed at 9pm, but didn't and was fine staying up until 11:30. we'll see how today works out.

it's 6:35am and there's light
with the time change, yesterday was dark until shower time, so i spent the morning hours doing dishes and surfing the web. got some blogging done too. today though, it seems there is some light appearing @ 6:35am. hmmm. do i venture outside to do some weeding and planting or wait? i only have a few minutes and i'm obviously using that time to blog and procrastinate. oh well.

Phoebe freaked out at the moving light.
see, now it's 6:40. i think i'll chill and tackle the garden later tonight.

how was your weekend?
mine was nice. i did the getting up early as much as i could. sunday was hard as i was also dealing with grand theft hour. i just need to remind myself it only takes a little effort to get outa bed. once out, it's easy as pie.
did some gardening...well, mostly weed pulling. we have this weed that sometimes just takes over and when A and i went out on saturday, it was overwhelming to see how much of it we have. when on sunday i was pulling it, i realized that was it. underneath, there wasn't much to pull. yay! the barkdust i put down last summer has kept some of the weeds down. i have some bulbs to plant and some plants we got from the nursery on saturday, but boy is it still pretty dark now @ 6:19am.
oh and i cleaned the kitchen.

so, yesterday, we ventured out for a walk to get some lunch. note to self - when ordering fish and chips, remember that chips are fries and don't order an appetizer of cajun fried. i was potatoed out the remainder of the day. luckily we walked, so after getting back home, i felt a little better. still, i was full 8 hrs later when i went to bed. our walk took us through our neighborhood and over to NE. along the way, we saw our favorite Euphorbia plants. i love this stuff.

we also came accross a pretty significant motorcycle bash. here in NE, the Gypsy Joker's Motorcycle gang call MLK home. they have a colorful history up off NE Fremont and MLK. we were walking down a side street and came upon their anniversary party. congrats people for making it 50 years as a cohesive bunch. is gang the right word? hmm.
on the way home, we eyed the stencil art - too good to be true.

the castle
went for a pretty good walk yesterday. you can see my route and elevation here. 3 miles baby. all in 62 minutes.
the sw hills are pretty cool. no traffic, some cool houses, even cooler winding streets and stairs - numerous stairs. i know in nw there are public stairs all over the place, but am just now discovering the cool stairways in sw. one of the sets i found yesterday was at the end of sw broadway, just before it shoots uphill into the neighborhood. the stairway was wooden and well made and long. i didn't count, but would put it at 200+ steps. i'm surprised about it being wooden. did the city build this? is it private/public? it even had a resting spot:

the edge of the pearl
day 2 of waking @ 5am. boy it was hard this morning. i actually didn't get out of bed - i confess. it was the dogs who pavlovian as they are, heard the alarm clock and forced my hand. then franka decided she wanted to be a little bitch, so right now - 6:15, she's in the kennel with me whilst i write you lovely people. not sure i'll get gardening done today as i lost those 20 minutes to sleep. i did do the gardening yesterday and it felt good. the day however was long and sleepy.
so, at lunch yesterday, i wandered out to the Pearl (john hausman voice) to pick up my glasses and decided to go to the edge. how far does the pearl go.... i also wanted to check out the new Bridgeport. (i also wanted a beer and pizza, but that's another story.)
from my perspective going north on 11th, the pearl begins to get sketchy around quimby. for you portlanders, you know that's pretty far north - a, b, c, d ... q. there are piles of dirt out here waiting, pining to become a condo. there are lots with curbs, but no sidewalks, hoping one day to become a starbucks or fusion restaurant. and there are warehouses, chillin in the sun, watching their balance sheets rise daily as the mainstreem pearl encroaches. even out here, on the edge, with graffiti tags everywhere, it still felt clean and safe and expensive.
soon people, i think they will be building condos next to or under the fremont bridge.. oh, wait, they already are...
oh, and a side note- gonna toot my own horn here. walking home, i encountered a woman in a wheelchair by the hospital trying to push her way uphill with her feet. i assisted her to the hospital where she needed to go to the emergency room. she was in bad shape. i hope i helped.

i have a cup of coffee - fresh stumptown
it's 5:33am.
i'm trying something new. i want to take back control of my activities. i feel i have become a little to relaxed and am not accomplishing the things i want to in any given day. maybe my expectations are too high, but then again, maybe i'm also a little lazy. i've decided to get up at 5am and see what happens. i figure that gives me 2 hours in the morning that i can be productive with. the challenge - don't drink coffee and surf for 90 of those minutes.
i've now spent 36 minutes on the web. hmmmm. i'm looking out the window, the first signs of light are peaking through. maybe i'll go out and do some gardening in a few minutes.
Update - day 1: i'm still awake. i've had only 2 cups of coffee and i feel good. i do wish i could go back to bed, but who doesn't in lieu of work... i did head out to the garden and cleaned up one of the planter boxes for anna's chard and greens. i began work on another box, but time went by fast. it was darn cold out there too. so many times, it was so easy to just go sit down and watch tv or surf the web. so many times, i looked around and saw stuff i could "do," but then brushed it off as...well, as i didn't want to do it. tomorrow is another day.

I’ve been thinking. Yes, thinking. It’s scary, because when I think, something evil occurs in my head.
Lately, there has been a huge uproar around the world as a result of cartoons and caricatures of Muhammad. In America, the talking heads and probably some coworkers have lambasted the “fundamentalists” as crazies and evil for protesting against what occurred. So, what it comes down to is a complete disregard by the west for other’s religious beliefs and customs.
Hey, what about the Virgin Mary, but with Rosanne Barr’s face.
My point is- the west is quick to criticize and make fun of how other cultures and religions react to stuff. Would we be so remiss if we saw some of the above examples published in a major international newspaper? I bet if that occurred, mr Bush would declare all out war on the culprit. Maybe even a fatwah.

the moon is smiling
been awhile. i'm sorry, i can't remember your name. i'm always bad with names... this past week went fast and i just didn't have much to write. the question i have for all of you is still germinating in my mind and will piss some of you off. oh well, i guess that's the price of freedom.
i have been walking, but not as much as i should. further, my walks are all around the same areas, so i don't have much new to report. i'll try though:
graffiti - there has been an uptick of tags (small spraypainted works) all over the city of late. most of them are chickenscratch and undiscernable to the average bear. according to police though, there is a significant increase in gang symbols showing up. we have them all over north and were in SE yesterday and saw the same crap. if you see it, please please note the address and take a photo if possible. either email it to me and i'll report it or go to the city's webpage and submit a report. it will (and i stress WILL) get cleaned up quickly either by the city or by the owner. this way, our city stay's clean.
bike paths - i'm not a bicyclist, but support bike paths. not only for bikes, but also to put a buffer between cars and the people on the sidewalk. we wandered down SE division earlier this week and i was scared to death some car would hop the curb and take me out. they were speeding by so close. need more bike lanes.
concerts: i want to go to more. we did the doug fir on thursday night and saw some good rock and then saw BRMC and Elephant last night at the Wonder. WOW, BRMC can rock the house.
garden: we planted two trees yesterday in the backyard. yet another attempt to make our back yard a place to enjoy, not just to look at. hopefully they will grow and provide plenty of shade for the future. i was going to do more work in the yard, but wow, those weeds really know how to depress me. too much to do...
wine tasting: went to a wine tasting event at Hip Chicks do Wine and had an enjoyable time. i was a little put off that everyone else got big glasses of tastings and we got little drops. oh well, i hope the fundraiser was beneficial.
st. paddy's day: no, i'm not irish, but went out anyway with a former work friend. note to pubs: if you are going to charge a cover, at least have something inside worth seeing other than long lines and families. nuff said.
and lastly before i bore you: to the barista @ the Fresh Pot, thanks for the following comment, it made my day:
"the city's in a fucked up mood today."
i just imagine a charicature of Portland with a mood ring on....

Happy Birthday Dad!
went over to my childhood home for my dad's 70th birthday this evening. it was fun with the family and the niece and nephews and such. we had good food, good drink and some good fun. i think A really enjoyed the "salad" with ham chunks in it. my mom's version of vegitarean food.
well, i was thinking about my childhood and wondered if my parents still had all the albums from our youth. lo and behold they did. i got misty eyed checking these out.

Gold Spike
vegas - yeh baby. vegas. we had a ton a fun by ourselves and with mikey and bev. thanks guys for hookin us up with MAGIC. i truly enjoyed that day and got 35,000 steps. that's like 35 miles (actually 10 or so.)
we stayed at the gold spike - a truly horribly smoky den of a hotel, but fun. our room was amazingly clean and large. the casino was fine and i didn't feel out of place chain smoking cigars. yes people, i've become a cigar whore. i did what i said i would do and smoke cigars the whole weekend - at the slots, at the tables, while walking the strip - even while walking through the Bellagio. i even ventured into Casa Fuentes, a premier cigar shop where i picked up some choice items for my buddy at riches. we also enjoyed some choice Mojitos. at that mall, we saw pete rose and some guy from star wars - pretty cool. i offered to buy anna a hermes bag, but we just couldn't find the hermes shop.
food - well, not that special. we're portland food snobs and obviously vegas doesn't have laughing planet. it worked out though and we didn't get sick. i did like the $1.50 beers at the gold spike and any free drinks the casinos were willing to offer. i did learn that if you want to drink, stick with beer as mixed drinks seem to be pretty week.

Jury duty post
doing my civic duty today for multnomah county. some early observations on fellow portlanders:
a. we're not confrontational enough. a woman in my row was talking and snort-laughing on her cell for about 15 minutes and instead of someone asking her to quiet down, they all just moved.
b. similar to above- there is a big tv up front. someone turned it on to the olympics which is cool and would appeal to most people. then some young guy went up and had the balls to change the channel to jerry falwell. he asked and no-one objected, but after the change, there were a ton of groans. I just laughed
(currently listening to "steve mcqueen" by the drive by truckers)
c. out of about 30 people, I count the following: 4 sleepers, 8 ipods, 7 trashy gossip magazines, 1 bible, 1 very loud shirt (i will try and capture it)
well, back to my book.

mcdonalds: as a teenager i worked at the rockwood mickey dees for over a year. good job, but boy was it nasty. i did get to play for the softball team.
mailroom coordinator: my first "corporate job." i thought it was a step toward bigger and better things- little did i know it would lead me to IT. hmmm.
library assistant in college: worked a summer re-cataloging books for the school library. boring boring boring boring boring, except for every evening partying with the other summer workers.
research assistant: worked for one of my professors cataloging and transcribing original civil war letters from an infantryman. they were later published in a book and i was highlighted in the preface. woo hoo.

A beautiful walk! OMG, what a beautiful day
i didn't think we could top yesterday, but the weather today was perfect. almost 60 deg. it felt like a tropical heat wave. i was antsy this morning, so went out to do some pruning of the rose in the back and then proceeded to cut down a dying redwood. wow, that was a chore. i had to use a hodag to cut the roots and pull the stump out. this isn't a big tree, only a few years old, but it hasn't been doing well the past few years and we were concerned about it. i was sad as i had planted it when it was a seedling.
on to other items- we were thinking of food and walking when suddenly we had a great idea to take the doggies for a walk up to lelo and adri's place to play with Wink. they were up for it, so off we went on this gorgeous day, walking along the bluff where we got to eye this wonderful Madrona Tree. I seem to remember there was a concert venue (or abandoned warehouse) down by where widmer is now called - Madrona Hill Winery.
well, 4 and 1/2 miles later, we finally arrived to play with Wink and lelo and Adri. boy, Wink is cute. our frodo had some marking challenges and phoebe was a bit too possesive to play. in the end, i think everyone had fun. next time we'll host Wink.

cards....beer....walking...cigars....walking.....dump....
today started pretty early. we were at a great show at the doug fir seeing Dead Meadow, a true rock band that just ripped it up. i love the doug fir, especially with east side relief and $1 high life. we then came home, a little drunk from the beer and awake from the coffee earlier in the evening and watched some tv. eddie izzard was on craig kilborn.
this morning, i awoke for the doggies and had some breakfast. a stunning morning with an amazing sunrise and wow, it was actually kinda warm. i was restless, so decided to fill up the truck one last time with the scrap wood i had on the side of the house. yes, i'm a packrat and was "saving" some of this rotton wood for "future" projects. oh well. i proceeded to do some serious purging, filling up the truck with all the junk. and off to the dump i went.
afternoon brought lunch and what better for us all than a great walk. we were going to head to our old favorite - laughing planet, but decided to try something new - lompoc over on williams. at the lompoc we picked up a deck of cards and well, that was it. after some excellent food and a few beers and a few hours, we decided to wander back home. we both one a hand of WAR too. it was so nice outside, we couldn't stop walking, so after we got home, we decided to head to the store. i was in the mood for a cigar, so i grabbed one of my best, aquired from a charity a few months back. it was a Maximus- i believe from Arturo Fuentes. trust me, a nice cigar. and let me tell you this - it rocked my world.
so, picture this - me an my love walking up interstate, both with headphones on listening to the same ipod and same music (all on shuffle.) we had a blast.
on the way back, i even dropped the bread and we had to backtrack to find it. oh well, it was worth it.
i'm chillin now, awaiting the crab we're going to have for dinner. i'm sooooo excited.

187 stairs......my feetsies hurt
today, i was trying to fill in the gaps in my downtown walking excursion, so headed up towards PSU again. while up there, i eyed 12th avenue past I405 and saw something i wanted it investigate. it was a huge public staircase leading up into the hills. seriously, the road dead-ended into some staircases. well, actually, it became cardinell st which is where the landslide occured just before christmas that crushed those two cars. i saw that and it was crazy.
well, i knew it would kill me, but i had to count those steps.

on the way up, to the left was a house about 5 stories tall, but most of that was an elevator, but probably an old one. to the right was a lot of empty space- what i mean is - some developable land. yes, it was available and there were plenty of signs selling it. i wouldn't be surprised if it is condos very soon.
once i got to the top of the stairs, i was on cardinell again. i guess that street wraps around. actually, i know this from google maps. yet at the time, i was stumped. i had only 1/2 hr left for lunch and was now on top of the world with regards to the city. do i go down? do i go up? i decided to say "fuck it" and go up, hoping it would eventually lead me back "down" and into the city. i had 30 minutes.
cardinell led up the hill further, past some amazing houses and views. i was stumped at how beautiful it was up there. i eventually hooked up with 16th ave and began the stroll down. 16th turned into hall and led me back down to 14th and PSU. pretty steep decent. i did cruise by an amazing house that i wanted to call a mansion, but it was just too new and mansion smacks of old. wow, the views were amazing.
in the end, i didn't get the steps i thought i would get, but i did get some amazing pictures.

i wonder if anyone was taking my picture
i walked a ton today. such a beautiful day, you couldn't just stay inside. take advantage while the rain is away in mexico drinking margeritas. i ventured up by PSU and stumbled upon a movie shoot for a movie named "The Music Within." not sure about who's really in it, but we had seen them shooting up off 23rd over the weekend. i think it's set in the 70's as all the actors were all decked out in 70's college student clothing.
i then ventured west of PSU, came upon a big RAT in front of the Old Church and then ventured toward burnside. yes, i was all over downtown. as i passed by the federal reserve in the picture, i thought about all these people who take pictures of certain buildings and are then asked to leave because local security guards think they are terrorists or something. well, i was thinking - walk by this building and take photos and see what happens. if i don't post in more than 3 days, call my parents- i may be in cuba "on vacation."
i'm surprised vic didn't kill anyone today and jack only killed 2 yesterday.

"Tires for sale" "Tires for sale"
I am not going to talk about the rain. I'm not.
I've been walking a lot lately trying to accomplish my task of walking every street downtown. I think i am past halfway after 1 month. I have been doing about 2-2 1/2 miles every lunch. Even today when it was raining. The map i am using is just a standard map of downtown and i mark off where i have been. According to trainster, i have done about 900,000+ steps in the past 3 months. Wow! My shoes are wearing and the soles are showing the wear.
Ok, the picture. Every so often, you go by a gas station or tire mart and see the tires out on display. I wonder if there are people out there who drive by and see something about a specific tire that peaks their interest and they stop and buy some. Kinda impulse like.
Just a wonder.

yup, we got together - 5 of us on the top of a building downtown. lelo, merchmikey, mistress tinymeat, superinkygrrl and mwah. obviously i'm taking this photo. we had a good weekend with mikey and bevs in town. good fun and i got to show off my favorite city - Portland. we ate, we drank, we did some shopping. you know, the same old stuff. we ventured out to multnomah falls in the rain and then up to the rose gardens at twilight saturday. great fun. come back soon.

Visitors
tinymeat and mistress tinymeat are in the hizzle y'all. arrived yesterday and last night we ripped it up portland style. we first met up with motokitty and doughnut at club21 where then geekgirl showed to also have a drinky. then it was off to the montage- a place portlanders always need to take their guests. I had mac and cheeze-yum! desert you ask? yup, got some apperifs at Pix pattiserrie in north and also enjoyed the royale with cheeze- an amazing chocolate dish paired with french brie. we weren't done yet. tinymeat was sleepy, so we ditched him and met cari and bill at the spare room for a nightcap. wrow cari, you go girl!

Tuesday - or as I call it -- "Warm Day"
so, did the walk home on Tuesday evening. i had done some walking during lunch and boy was it a wonderful day. the sun was shining and it was warm and even the planters out front of our building began to sprout. it reminded me of last year when we had 4-5 weeks of dry weather in feb. i decided to walk down and accross the hawthorne bridge to the esplanade. i didn't get out as early as i wanted, so by the time i was on the esplanade, it was getting dark. i did get some good photos though and will post at the end. the esplanade was crowded, but as i walked and it got darker, the crowds thinned. at the point where you walk on the water (floating part) it was empty. spooky with the twilight.
now on the east side, i ventured up williams instead of vancouver. this led me past some wonderful buildings that i just want to covet. i think the house of sound building and market at vancouver and shaver (or there abouts) would be the shit for a market and venture. i walked by the new lompoc and it was crowded - almost overly crowded. way to go peeps. then i came upon an industrial building that had more wrought iron around it's window than a bronx house - then i saw the company name - Scientific Research Inc.. what the hell? what are they doing in there behind all that security steel? in north portland no less.
good walk - i was schweaty and felt good. btw - i've lost about 7lbs since jan 2.
oh and here's a nugget for thursday - instead of asking what jesus would do - ask yourself this?

82 steps---BOOYA!
Been walking a little lately, but not the amount of past weeks. Been laying low trying to get healthier. Also, the A as been sick and i have wanted to be there for her.
Today's walk took me up to 14th and then over to lovejoy and accross the broadway bridge. Enroute, i did stop by Riches for a wonderful cigar- Joya De Nicaragua-Antano. WOW! It was just the right size and flavor. It was actually very large and thick. Go with it.
Well, as i approached the broadway bridge, i realized i had been wanting to check out a new development down on front ave, north of Albers Mill. I decided to venture noth to intersect with front and the swing back around to catch the bridge. There are actually two significant condos going in down there. One by the train station and the other on the water. I ended up at the bridge- and THE STAIRS. 82 steps up to the bridge from front ave. I know that isn't much, but it kicked my ass. Seriously, the stairs dislodged themselves and swung around to put a piller into my soft buttocks. I am bruised and am having trouble relaxing while watching tv.
I need to do more steps.
I need to eat more chocolate.
I need to wash my walking clothes- they got some funk...

For Sale
the original Outside In house. if you don't know, Outside In is a non-profit that helps street kids. well, i walked by today and saw the old house is for sale for moving. so, if you have a vacant lot, here's a house for you.
my lunch walk took me further into SW up west of PSU and I405. i love it up there and the houses are amazing. i'm not in the mansion area, still level with downtown if not a little higher, but definately not the "west hills."
i did venture down 13th to burnside and back on 12th. that was good as there are some new developments to eye. especially the lot next to the presbyterian church that used to be the danforth hotel and will now become a cool park.
next time you wander about, look around you and see how many businesses have ground floor offices. many of these offices have people working in the windows. i would love to have a window seat. oh how awesome it would be. yet, there are risks. do you realize how much information is available by just walking by an office window? not just what's on the computer screen facing you, but the papers left on one's desk is also revealing. i wonder how many identity thefts have taken place as a result of someone looking through a businesses window.
businesses - think about your public view and evaluate what is being presented. this goes for the Portland Water Bureau on N. Interstate as well.

i love walking - but these past couple weeks with the rain has been challenging. today's lunch walk took me up by pge park and lincoln high and back into downtown. i did see some cool stuff along the way, including the police property warehouse behind the bleachers @ lincoln. interesting....
i then was over on the east side and eyed this building off 7th ave. i love it.
not much in my world other than some people on craigslist suck balls. that's it.

at best buy
today, at best buy (and no, there weren't any h2s in the lot) we eyed this 9yr old (or 10 or 12) playing this ultra violent shooting game on the xbox 360. that wasn't the scary part- it was that she was doing very well with her machine gun while seemingly not paying too much attention.

i punched an SUV!
hey drivers, even though you are so busy on your cell phone, you still have a responsibility to NOT run over pedestrians. in my walking over the past few days the following has happened:
lastly - no takers on the pool table? what about some furniture? we have a cool 50's dresser and an older enamled hutch. email if interested.
- at 10th/Morrison - waiting for the walk sign, when the light turned green and i got my walk sign, a Tahoe decided it was ok to turn into me. he was on the phone and i even hit his bumper with my umbrella - he was so busy he didn't even flinch
- later that walk, i was walking through an intersection with a walk sign when someone ran a red light in the far lane. i was so shocked, i couldn't react.
- evening on n. skidmore/maryland - a shitty intersection - i had my LED flashing light in hand and yet the old man in the shitty car still almost ran me over. and to match that, as i was in the middle of the crosswalk, an SUV decided to cross the intersection, coming right at me. i shone my light at him and he paused enough for me to cross.
- today, while walking to coffee, we were almost run over by a cop turning down a street - no lights, no siren. i didn't slap his trunk. need to get paid today
- finally - i love it when i'm walking against traffic on a 1 way street - the people who want to turn onto that street are always looking at the cars, not at the possible pedestrians. yes, i'm talking to you jackass. look both ways! wasn't that what we learned in driver's school?
lastly - no takers on the pool table? what about some furniture? we have a cool 50's dresser and an older enamled hutch. email if interested.

what should have been in the trunk in two shoulder bags...
we walked to new seasons last night to get lunch fixin's. since we were walking, we only brought the crumpler bags - big for me and little for the cutie. i didn't think we would need both, but it's good to be prepared. i love walking to the store and having the ability to do so. we got some good stuff, packed the bags full and walked back. i had to carry the loaf of bread in my hand cause there wasn't room.
today's downtown streetquest took me on the following route:
sw morrison to sw 17th then n. to alder then east to 12th, then over to washington and down to 9th then back to alder and down to 1st avenue over to yamhill and then back to work. not the longest walk. it was darn windy and the umbrella was going all which way. due to the weather, i decided to bitch out and not walk home this evening. i still have managed to get around 10,000 steps today.
oh and my homemade sandwich was excellent.
btw - is anyone out there interested in a pool table. we have one. it needs some tlc, but all the parts are there. email or comment.

i need a nap
are you a napper? do you indulge in the afternoon nap on the weekends? i do and right now - it's 4:43pm on a rainy rany saturday and i'm gonna go take a nap. more than likely, the dogs will nap with me. it's so cute.

damn kids
i am beginning to understand why single and childfree adults end up in dive bars for meals. we ventured out today to get some lunchy and ended up at a favorite restaurant of ours over off NE Broadway in Irvington. we were enjoying our meal, a meatball sandwich and a salad medley when two couples and a screaming kid were seated just behind me. this was one of those situation where a parent was either clueless about what the kid was doing, or didn't care. i am opting for the "didn't care" angle because they didn't do anything to keep the kid from screaming in my ear for 5 minutes. seriously - SCREAMING! and children have a scream power that rivals any horror movie.
my plea - just like you woudn't take your small child to a movie, if your kid is screaming at the back of other patron's heads, please take them outside or ask them to be quiet. we're paying just as much as you and have a right to enjoy our meal without the screaming kid as a side dish.
oh and to add to this, we hurried back home in order to make a sale off craigslist and then the buyer emailed at the proposed time and told me something about having to reschedule due to a birthday party for a KID or something shity. why is this happening to me today?

wednesday - ever talk that out? wed...nes....day?
early morning due to ...... won't go into that here. good day for walking though. as you know, i want to walk all the streets downtown. today, i ventured out for lunch with the initial purpose of walking in the area i was yesterday and going down the "missed" streets. well, that didn't pan out as i walked with a coworker down for some lunch. he wanted bento, but that didn't appeal to me, so i ventured over to great harvest bakery for a 1/2 sandwich. for $4.25, the 1/2 sandwich could probably feed a family of 3. wow was it a great sandwich. i didn't hang around and eat there, no i did not, i needed to walk. and walk i did. oh, how i did. (am i making sense here?)
stats: sw taylor to 2nd, 2nd n. to nw glisan, glisan to 3rd. 3rd south to sw market, market to 5th, 5th north to clay, clay west to park, park north to salmon, salmon down to 5th - approx 2.7 miles - 4884 aerobic steps - 1hr.
yes, 2.7 miles in 1hr. isn't that grand? and along the way, i was only accosted once by someone wanting money. the even called me by name - "listener.... hey listener." i couldn't believe it, he knew my alter ego as a "listener."
i know you're bored now, but bear with me. the walk home was excellent. since i was awakened early, i decided to leave a during daylight hours and was able to walk most of downtown and the pearl in the daylight/twilight. i was able to take some amazing photos too. along the way, i smoked a La Gloria Cubana Series R. i was attempting to light it on the bus mall outside of meier and frank when a young guy offered me "flame." he actually had a butane lighter, perfect for cigars. we chatted briefly, me telling him what cigar i had and where i got it. what a nice guy! then it was up stark to 10th and 10th north to lovejoy. lovejoy takes me east accross the broadway bridge and then up to n. vancouver and n. portland.

and we had sauteed chard with garlic and red onions for dinner - beat that!

In just 2 blocks, we eyed 3 fucking H2's. It's crazy we have so many in puddletown. I forgot to tell you, Rigo was in town for the weekend and we ventured off to Powell's on Sunday to show him the craziness that is Powell's. On our way back to the car, we eyed an H2 eagerly awaiting our birds. I told A and Rigo to go pose and the looked behind me (not sure why) and realized the owners may be in the middle aged couple walking up. I began to stress "walk away, walk on" all the while laughing at the situation. IT WAS THIER H2!

Jan 3 lunch walk - cool architecture
over the weekend, i picked up a downtown walking map at powells and decided that i was going to walk every street on that map and document it. well, today i began. i know i have said this before, but didn't really have a good starting point and now i do.
today's walk took me down to the waterfront, south on Naito parkway past the mercedes dealership and the KUFO fuck you hummer and then i passed through a parking lot to get me up to 1st ave. once there, i went up Lincoln to 4th ave and then back to work. the trip was about 1.62 miles which i figured out to be about 4000 steps. i forgot my pedometer today. so, a few blocks down, many more to go.
along the way, i almost got run over once and almost hit the jackass' car with my umbrella. good walk.
once home, we wandered down to the comic book store for some chit chat with michael.
so, keep on the lookout for updates on the city street walk 2006.

Hummer H2 driver kills couple in gresham
people have asked - why do i flip off h2's? my answers revolve around them being gas guzzlers, having no purpose other than status and just plain ugly. well, they also have another horrific purpose - to kill. lelo emailed me the following story about an H2 running over a sentra out in gresham. a sentra and a hummer is like a pedestrian and a car. to add to the story, the H2 had an added front steel grill and was damaged very little.
so, tonight i'll go to bed and say a prayer for the H2 victims.
